Building Inspector – Quality Control Manager

This position is with Lelands Cabins, builder of both residential and commercial cabins.

The Building Inspector performs highly skilled work in the inspections of pre-fabricated buildings during all phases of construction at our Grandview plant to assure compliance with current state building codes. Responsible for logging inspections, deviations, and corrections. The Building Inspector conducts pre-delivery walk-throughs with the customer once construction is completed, and the building has passed final inspection. Conduct or coordinate energy rating inspections on pre-fabricated structures. Structures adhere to International Residential and Commercial codes adopted by Texas.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Performs phased in-plant Inspections to verify compliance with building, electrical, and plumbing code requirements. Communicates clearly, respectfully, and concisely with management, shop foreman, and clients. Stay current with the latest building codes and regulations. Interprets, advises, and answers questions for shop foreman, management, and State Inspectors. Provides proactive interpretation, determines deviations, and inspects and logs corrective actions during construction processes. Maintains inspection records including records of third-party testing and reports from plumbers, electricians, and energy tests. Works as a team with co-workers to complete daily scheduled tasks in a timely manner. Communicates with contractors; reads and interprets building construction plans and building construction codes and ordinances in an effective manner. At construction completion, conducts pre-delivery walk-through inspection with the client. Operate standard office equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of Building, electrical, and plumbing codes as adopted by the State of Texas. Inspection practices and methods. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Basic computer skills to log inspections, access digital files, and email.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in construction inspections.
Education: High school diploma or GED.
License or Certification: Preference may be given to applicants with at least one ICC Inspectors certification or electrical license. Plumbing license a plus. Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Regularly required to sit and stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. Must be able to walk, stand, stretch, bend, twist, stoop, and kneel. Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is conducted at our manufacturing facility in Grandview. Inspections are conducted at all phases of the build, some are in the facility, others may be outdoors. Work is also conducted in an office setting.
